Dairy Processing Plant - Reducing Product Waste
CUSTOMER Dairy Processing Plant Waukesha, Wisconsin
APPLICATION The dairy processing plant must monitor the liquid milk product as it travels through the process equipment in an effort to reduce waste and save money.
CHALLENGE When cleaning/flushing lines during product changeovers, the plant loses substantial product as the water flushes through. To reduce that waste, it’s necessary to measure the fat cells in the line as it flows to pinpoint exactly when to divert the material to either the sewer or to holding/recovery tanks.
SOLUTION The solution involved AW’s ProScan Optical Sensor. This sensor provides the in-line, real-time monitoring needed to detect product-to-water ratios, thus reducing the amount of product diverting to the sewer. This in turn results in significant cost savings from local sewer municipalities, which charge more for this type of organic waste because of the additional processing required.
RESULTS The ProScan optical sensor has been used in dairy processing plants around the world, and has provided savings of thousands of dollars, actually paying for itself in a matter of weeks.
