Grease Dispensing - Batch Automation
CUSTOMER Industrial tool & equipment provider Hanover, PA Project Manager: Company’s Engineering Dir.
APPLICATION The company needed to upgrade a grease dispensing application to use a batch controller to allow rapid changing of dispense amounts for different products.
CHALLENGE The customer wanted to continue to use an existing hand nozzle with electric trigger switch. This provided two obstacles to the use of the standard LLC-BA batch controller. The nozzle trigger does not provide the necessary momentary closure required by the LLC-BA batch controller and the customer did not want the dispense to stop until completed even if the operator opened the trigger before the dispense was completed.
SOLUTION These obstacles were overcome by adding some logic and two timing relays inside the batch enclosure. The batch will initiate immediately upon the operator squeezing the trigger and will continue until completed independent of whether the operator has released the trigger. A customer selected time-delay prevents the batch control from reacting to the trigger for a certain time after the dispense cycle is completed so that another batch is not started if the operator has not released the trigger immediately at the end of the dispense cycle.
